Wisconsin Marine Corps Recruiting Schools Graduate Have Easy Job
Marine Corps recruiting schools teach marines how to convince potential enlisted members to go through the entire process and enter the military. In many states, recruiters have to work hard to meet monthly quotas set by the Marine Corps, so they spend much of their time in Marine Corps recruiting schools learning about how to combat the resistance to considering the military. In some states, such as Wisconsin, however, this is proving to no longer be the case.
According to a recent article about Marine Corps recruiting schools in Wisconsin are seeing a large number of graduates turning to the military. Data from a recent Department of Public Instruction study shows that more Wisconsin public high school students are planning to join the Marine Corps today is the highest it's been in this decade, even in 2001 and 2002, following the September 11 attacks. Marine Corps recruiting schools that are training Wisconsin recruiters certainly don't have to focus much on persuasion.
Sergeant Jeremy McCormick, who went through training at Marine Corps recruiting schools and now works in Wisconsin, says that it was hard to find new recruits in the past. Today, the recruiting centers are flooded with applications, however.
Marine Corps recruiting schools give multiple reasons for the increase in enlistment. They spend billions of dollars on advertising and marketing annually, and all branches of the military have been working hard to entice young people to consider this option, through video games, promising money for college, and airing commercials that teens can relate to. In Wisconsin, it's also an issue of job availability. In some areas of the state, workers who've gone through Marine Corps recruiting schools don't have a hard job convincing new recruits to sign up in part because they don't have other job options. Some parts of the state are seeing double-digit unemployment rates.
Not everyone is happy about the increase in military numbers in Wisconsin and the presence of Marine Corps recruiting schools staff members in high schools. In June, about 100 protesters rallied in support of removing recruiting from public schools. Students were given opt-out forms in order to avoid being contacted by Marine Corps recruiting schools staff members and recruiters from other branches. Still, in areas where there is a strong sense of patriotism, which is especially common in rural parts of the state, more and more students are turning to the military as a viable job option.
The influx of applicants in Wisconsin may mean that Marine Corps recruiting schools change their educational focus. Not every new recruit will make it through boot camp with the Marine Corps, so it is becoming increasing important for Marine Corps recruiting schools to teach their staff members about weeding out the unlikely candidates from the state. Recruiters say that they're taught to give 100 percent of the information upfront, including how dangerous and physically demanding this career can be. Although there are good things about being in the Marine Corps, recruiters can help create a stronger military overall by being upfront about the downsides as well.
